Wordless Wednesday: Spring time in the city...

 

Why yes, those are the flowers I planted in the planter last Spring that completely died and looked like burnt toast by Summer because I didn't water them  have grown for a second season {even though they aren't annuals!}

Meet Kaylee and Maya

So some people would say that 3 months after getting married is too soon to become a parent. But we've thoroughly enjoyed it. They bring joy to us even on the worst of days.

Ok, ok. I'm not talking about human kids. I'm talking about these two:

{middle upper and right - Kaylee; lower middle and Left - Maya}

Aren't they just precious?!?! {If you don't know this - they are Sugar Gliders.} We got them last September, and they have grown so much! {I know - how much could they have grown, they are so tiny, right?} But they were about 4 inches long (plus about as much tail) when we got them, and scared of everything. Now they are about 3 times as large in weight and about 2x longer! I was kindof worried they wouldn't be as cute when they got bigger - but I was wrong! They are more inquisitive than ever, and we have a hard time changing the toys in their cage often enough to satisfy their energy!

This is how they greet me every morning before I go to work:
     Kaylee immediately comes out of her pouch and asks for treats.
     Maya is more lazy shy, so she just pokes her head out to watch. Then they follow me around with their eyes {Maya} or their body {Kaylee} until I give them a treat. It is a wonderful way to start the day.

Here's some of our other funny moments:
Kaylee likes to keep me company while I study. She will hang out in my sweatshirt and sleep. Then when she gets bored/wakes up she wants to check out my computer...

{Hey mom, do you need help with your grant?}

{Hmm... maybe you are hiding the treats over here by these strings?}

I tried to get some close ups of Kaylee while she was running - she LOVES running in her wheel. We are planning on getting them a second wheel because they fight over who gets to run in it right now.

{Mom - don't distract me - I'm very serious about my daily run.}

 {Wait - Are you going to give me a treat?}

{Hmm, this camera looks like it might taste good...}

 {Who me? - I didn't do anything!}

{Don't you dare take my ball away!!}

This last one, I had Maya in my pouch and she was watching my computer screen very intently for about 10 minutes.

So those are my cuties!

Little Bits of Happiness v.1

This week we said WELCOME SPRING! The weather has been so beautiful! Although we've both been extremely busy, we were able to go for a walk.

11 RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME:

1. I love the mornings when I get to work and no one is there yet. It's so quiet and peaceful. It's the perfect way to start the day.

2.  I am allergic to pine trees (and most trees) so we always have a fake Christmas tree, but the bonus is we get to put it up and take it down in March on our schedule.

3. I have two cute sugar gliders - Kaylee and Maya! Kaylee is the "tomboy" - she's always the first one up and loves running in her wheel. Maya is the princess - she loves sleeping in and watching everyone and everything.

4. I change out of jeans as soon as I can when I get home.

5. Grapefruits are my favorite fruit.

6. I was a math and Chemistry major in college, but I'm now working towards a Ph.D. in Pharmacology {the study of drugs and how to design them - I'm not going to be a pharmacist}.

7. My birthday is April Fools Day {no joke}.

8. I love Sci Fi shows and Fantasy books {Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter, etc.} 

9. I like baking, but I'm not a fan of cooking (thus why I try so many crockpot recipes).

10. The best part of my day is when I get to go to bed!

11. I have a really awesome family - including one brother and one sister-in-law!

QUESTIONS:

1.  What is your favorite vegetable?

Asparagus - it goes so well with everything! We try to use it every time we can!

2.  What do you like to do when you have alone time?

I do a lot of things when I have alone time. It kindof depends on my mood. If I'm really tired from work, I'll read or watch TV, or play video games.

If I'm feeling particularly motivated, I like to turn music on really loud and clean the apartment. 

Regardless of what I'm doing, I usually turn on some kind of sound - I don't really like being in a quiet apartment by myself.

3.  What TV show/movie do you watch by yourself because no one wants to watch it with you?

Quite a few. Probably top of the list would be Hart of Dixie, Nikita, and America's Next Top Model... (I know, I know...)

4.  What is your biggest dream in life?

To have a wonderful family and a career that I enjoy.

5.  What was the scariest nightmare you've ever had?

I don't have a lot of nightmares, but I had several weird ones right before we got married where I was walking down the aisle wearing nothing. I don't know if that counts as scary, but it was really disconcerting.

6.  What pet have you always wanted but never had?

Up until last September I would have said sugar gliders, but that was before these cuties joined us! So I guess I would say a hedgehog!! My college roomie, Melissa, and I used to say we were going to get one to share. I don't know that I really want one, I've heard they're kindof messy. But who can't say this cutie isn't adorable?

7.  What is your guilty pleasure?

Anything chocolate. And ginger-lemon tea as of late.

8.  Are you a Daddy's girl or Mommy's girl?

Both. I know that isn't really an answer. I was definitely a Daddy's girl growing up, but my Mom and I have gotten really close since I moved out. I think we're so similar that we just drove each other crazy when we were living together.

9.  What is something you just can't stand?

Foot tapping/leg shaking. Unfortunately I married a leg shaker, so I'm stuck with the incessant shaking of the desk/table/chair/floor. Oh well.

10.  What is your least favorite word? (Swear words don't count)

It is a tie between the use of "retarded" and "gay" as a slur/insult. It is a big pet peeve of mine. We should not be promoting the idea that those who have different sexual preferences or mental capabilities are somehow "less" than anyone else! Find a different word to describe your test/car/situation that is not promoting a negative perception of others! *breathes*  Sorry, really big pet peeve. Probably would have been my answer to #9, but I figured I would try not to repeat.

11.  What is your favorite blog?

If I had to choose just one - 

Elena's blog: The Art of Making A Baby is great! Her and her husband just had a little girl, and she's been very candid about the whole pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, motherhood process. I love reading about her experiences!
